Level 1 BWRT®
The first level of BWRT® is designed to help you recode your instinctive response to the trigger, often a memory, that would previously have set you on a path of anxiety or even panic. We don’t remove the memory – in some part of your brain this will always remain, but we can change your subconscious, cognitive gap, response to it.
Think of it this way – memories have power. Most of us have memories that are lovely and when they pop up, we smile. That’s our instinctive response. We don’t think: “Oh happy memory, I shall smile.” Some of us have memories that trigger a very different response – panic, anger, fear, etc – but, by altering small parts of that memory we can diffuse the power and it won’t have the same effect, it won’t trigger that same instinctive response in the cognitive gap.
We are all of us the sum of every experience we have ever had – good, bad, indifferent, awful. Our subconscious brain exists to make sense of our world, and actively looks for triggers that create what it believes to be the necessary response. For example, if you have had a bad experience in a lift, it will from then on assume you will need to react in a given way to being in a lift – it’s trying to save your life. In fact, this reaction is not helpful, your life does not need saving, so we need to change the bad memory to allow your subconscious to recode its reaction to it.
I use Level 1 BWRT® to help my clients address issues with:
Anxiety
- General Anxiety Disorder (for more on this, see my blog post here)
- Social Anxiety
- Occasion anxiety (dental appointments, job interviews etc)
- Feelings of overwhelm
- Guilt and shame
Low self-esteem
- Lack of self-confidence
- Lack of self-belief
- Feelings of low self-worth
- Fear of failure
Phobias
- Fear of exams
- Fear of flying
Procrastination
- Low ability to self-motivate
Anger
- Excessive anger response
- Feelings of intense irritation or frustration
Grief
Panic Attacks
It may be, and often is, the case that you will only need a single session to overcome your trouble. One session can address one trauma. If you have multiple traumas or phobias, we will address each one separately, in a single session each time.
BWRT® Level 2
BWRT® Level 2 is designed to address psychological issues centred around who you believe you are, rather than specific, delineable events causing the issues as listed above. For example, you might identify yourself as such: “I’m useless”, of “I’m a gambler/compulsive shopper/binge drinker”, where you see the problem as being an intrinsic part of you, rather than something that only happens as a result of an external trigger.
For some, feelings of worthlessness, or overwhelm, or the loss of joy in life, come from a bad experience such as job loss, the failure of a business, a divorce or the loss of a loved one, for example. When this happens, we can lose our connection with a time when we felt happy, content and took pleasure in life.
BWRT® is used to help you rediscover that connection, to remind your subconscious of positive memories and recover your sense of self.
BWRT® is powerfully effective in treating people who feel like this. Issues we can safely and effectively address include:
Self-destructive behaviours
- Overeating and binge eating
- Alcohol dependency*
- Gambling
- Compulsive shopping
*Note – BWRT® can assist with addictive behaviours, but not in cases where alcohol has caused a physical, chemical reliance. This needs to be addressed first before considering BWRT®.
Agoraphobia
Extreme shyness or social anxiety
Bullying
- Overbearing partners
- Workplace bullying
BWRT® Level 2 is a structured process, over three to four sessions to get the best results for you in the shortest time. No months of talking, of analysing, this therapy is speedy, dynamic and powerful. Weekly sessions mean that we can sometimes restore your sense of self, your mojo, in just one month.
At our first meeting, we will assess your issues and discuss the correct treatment protocol for you, and whether this is Level 1, or Level 2.
